“The issue of the treatment of the past is becoming a daily topic of hotter in Kosovo. Each case of discovery of the truth, the pursuit of justice and the rehabilitation of survivors of war and their families is a further step towards reconciliation, “says Nora Ahmetaj, director of the Center for Research, Documentation and Publication.
This however depends on all the seriousness of the actors involved in all these processes, as well as the willingness of people affected by war most vulnerable to extend the hand of reconciliation.
Kosovo institutions, together with civil society have begun work on developing a new strategy for handling state of the past.
Centre for Research, Documentation and Publication, has made a serious commitment to assist this process by participating directly in the inter-ministerial working group, while remaining involved in its projects to support the whole process. KFOS, supported the effort to monitor and implement the Law on War Katgoritë and to assess the conditions of these marginalized groups.
After six months of work on the ground, CRDP has gathered information to distribute to interested parties with a short reports on the state of that part of the most vulnerable population affected by the war, on relations with Kosovo institutions such as and relationships of various state parties responsible for decision making and service delivery for this category.
“I hope CRDP’s efforts, as well as the information provided in this report will raise awareness of the deplorable conditions of this part of Kosovo society marginalized, allowing us to add a sense of solidarity with them and confirmed the determination us to strengthen the law without discrimination, “said Nora Ahmetaj.
CRDP’s director, added that their task was not to define the legal status of combatants and civilians, or to establish a legal definition of the concept of war against the armed conflict within the time period.
This should be the responsibility of the courts and the groups of experts, whose task is to examine the legal status of individuals or their families who died or disappeared during the war violently.
She added that they are aware that the areas in which they have chosen to work is neither “on trend” nor pleasant to the public, since it deals with highly sensitive issue for society. There is not even attractive topic for potential contributor because of past treatment process is long and complex, laborious intervals achievements and successes.
