Mafia Economy is Eroding Kosovo

Economic experts and political analysts assess that Serbia is still an obstacle of any international development initiative for Kosovo which discourages local producers with illegal competition.

According to them, this is detrimental to the development of local industries in Kosovo, because this problem narrows options for customers and also negatively affects investors in Kosovo.

Economic mafia in Kosovo is acting in favor of Serbian products, making trade exchanges between Kosovo and Albania are not great. Barriers to free exchanges between these countries made primarily by companies that have a monopoly on bringing goods from Serbia, which tend to occupy the country with the goods. Economic experts and political analysts assess that Serbia is still an obstacle of any international development initiative for Kosovo which discourages local producers with illegal competition.

According to them, this is detrimental to the development of local industries in Kosovo, because this problem narrows options for customers and also negatively affects investors in Kosovo.

Kosovo annually loses about 20 million income

Muhamet Mustafa MP of LDK and economics expert, said the issue at the mafia should be explored, but no lobby of importers that are harmful to investment and development of domestic production and this obviously hinders trade relations and increase exports both sides of the border. He said, that include those related to consumer habits, because many commercial organisations have long established links with organisations in Serbia. “This issue somehow narrows choices for consumers and bad influences and investors in Kosovo and as a result creates a kind of shopping addiction by Serbia which is not required and not logical. This is detrimental to the development of local industries in Kosovo.
