Whether you are tourists, backpackers or couch surfing, please plan your trip carefully and don’t try to travel to Serbia, after arriving in Kosovo, or you will be stranded at the border, because Serbia will not let you enter from Kosovo.
Time and time again, travellers who come to Kosovo, are unaware that they are unable to enter Serbia from Kosovo, unless they have entered Kosovo via Serbia.
On several occasions my couch surfers have arrived in Kosovo via Macedonia, Albania or Montenegro and then want to travel to Serbia. Although the Kosovo border will let you pass, the Serbian border will not let you enter and then you will be stranded and have to return to Prishtina and get a bus to Macedonia or Montenegro to enter Serbia.
It is no good asking a bus driver or someone at the bus station if you can enter the border into Serbia, because they will tell you that you can, but they do not know the regulations for foreigners, or that you have not entered from Serbia.
Also beware if you are taking a bus from Prishtina to Montenegro, because one of the buses also goes through Serbia on the journey.
There is one way you can enter though and that is if you have an ID card and use that instead of your passport. If you don’t have an ID card then it is best to travel to Kosovo after Serbia, but make sure don’t have too many dinar if you are not returning, because you will also have problems changing it back.
So plan your route carefully, if you don’t want to back track.
