Kosovo Takes First Steps to a New Law that Would See Jihadists Face 15 years in Jail

A draft resolution was passed today, which will make it a crime to participate in, or joining a foreign army, police, paramilitary formations, or organising groups of individuals outside the territory of Kosovo. If this law passes the Assembly, every Kosovo citizen, who has joined any of these groups will face 15 years in prison.

13920516000259_PhotoIAt the Government meeting, which was held on Wednesday,  the Interior Minister, Bajram Rexhepi, announced to the ministry, that has taken the initiative for drafting this bill, in order to protect the internal security of the state. In recent weeks it has become, quite obvious that young men have been brainwashed to go and fight with terrorists overseas, for payment and weapons. With over 200 Albanians, fighting with Al Qaeda in Syria and 6 being killed so far. These people, according Rexhepi, on return to the country, after a short time, become carriers of propaganda and promotion of terrorist activities. ” We considered that it is the immediate creation of a legal framework for prosecution and trial of such persons who participate in any form of informal organisation, paramilitary outside the territory of Kosovo,” he said , without giving other details before colleagues his ministers.
