The government in Pristina unilaterally declared its independence from Serbia in 2008, but there are still plenty of challenges ahead for Europe’s youngest country.
To mark the anniversary, volunteers painted the NEWBORN monument with the flags of all the countries which support Kosovo. The monument has been neglected by the government, which would not maintain it or even let the founder look after it. Like most things in Kosovo, unless the politicians get a backhander, they will do nothing. A corrupt government who care more about themselves than their country. It is only people like the founder of NEWBORN, Fisniq Ismalli, a member of Vetevendosje who actually care about Kosovo.
The once graffiti covered NEWBORN was re-painted yellow last week and was once again covered in graffiti within days. Volunteers did in 24 hours, what the government couldn’t do in 5 years.
